The Importance of Mild Exercising

I often tell my patients who come into Howard’s for diabetic shoes about the importance of mild exercising with an off-handed joke, “if you don’t exercise, you will be in here getting a wheelchair from me eventually.” With our muscles, the term, “use it or lose it” is true. First, if you have not exercised in a while, talk to your doctor before starting any healthcare program, particularly if you have had any health problems. If you have mobility limitation, this does not mean you can no longer exercise. At Howard’s we have an item called the “Peddler” which allows someone to exercise their legs or arms from a seated position. Next we have therapeutic support bands and balls to help exercise portions of the body you might be rehabbing from surgery. Last, we also have found that by having someone ambulate with a cane or walker allows them to do more exercising. After you talk to your doctor, come see our mobility aides we have at Howard’s Medical.

A peddler is a great start to your mild exercise program: https://www.drivemedical.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1660#

What is a nebulizer?

Winter is nebulizer season for our medical supply.  Most people who have never used a nebulizer have no idea what a nebulizer is. Nebulizers with compressors are manufactured to convert liquid medication into a mist so the user can breath and inhale the medication into their lungs. This allows for a reduced dose of medication and a faster medication response time, because of the delivery directly to the lungs. These nebulizers with compressors are considered medical devices and cannot be sold or rented without a written order from a physician. The user must follow all manufacturers’ safety and operational procedures.

We have an advantage at Howard’s because we have two pharmacists on staff.  Usually one has to go to one medical supply to get the nebulizer and another to get your aerosol prescription.  At Howard’s we can do both because we are both a pharmacy and medical supply.

Nebulizers with compressors come in a variety of sizes and shapes and airflow outputs. There are stationary units that must be plugged into an approved, grounded electrical outlet and battery-powered models that are portable. Most insurance companies do not consider a portable unit a medical necessity. A quality unit has at least a 1-year warranty and a consistent airflow output.

You can buy one of our nebulizers from our website or stop by any of our stores and we would be happy to help:
